Martial Arts

Instructor:
Michael Masso

  • In the first few weeks of the semester, our focus will be on building a strong foundation—establishing core techniques and introducing the social expectations of the class. This will naturally vary based on the age group and prior experience of the students, but generally includes basic boxing punches and introductory karate kicks.

As the semester progresses, we will introduce self-defense applications and controlled takedowns on mats. In honor of our program’s name, Medjay Martial Arts, students will also train with the Khopesh, the iconic curved sword of Ancient Egypt. Each student will receive their own foam or training-safe khopesh to practice with and keep at the end of the semester.

By the latter part of the semester, students will begin combining earlier techniques into more advanced sequences, developing both physical skill and creative problem-solving in martial application.
